In collaboration with Pope Jai Thai, a social enterprise that employs people with special needs and disabilities, an IoT Communication System was developed as part of Nanyang Polytechnic's Integrated Multidisciplinary Project (IMP). This project brought together the School of Health and Social Science, School of Engineering, and School of Information Technology.

For hearing-impaired staff working in the food and beverage industry, verbal customer requests can be challenging to manage. To address this, we created a peer-to-peer (P2P) communication system. The system consists of a central unit powered by Raspberry Pi and Zigbee, which communicates with Arduino Nano wearable devices. These devices transmit essential information like table requests, short messages, and proximity alerts.

The project was showcased at Maker Faire 2018 and Singapore University of Technology and Design’s Design Odyssey 2.0.
